Fan Expo 2011

This year Vicki and I bummed around the Koyama Press table for 2 our of the 4 days of Fan Expo! We kinda fell down on the job pretty hard and forgot to post anything about it beforehand, we have both turned into very busy people, and terrible bloggers. (I thought I just typed "boogers". I did not.)

We were somewhat smarter this year and stuck to producing a very small number of fanarty things. I didn't take pictures of Vicki's super awesome bookmarks, maybe she will be kind and post some later???? I confess, I don't know much about the mainstream comic/star wars/star trek/video game world, so I stuck to some of the only characters I AM familiar with:

Hey guys, we actually did pull the names for the raffle we held at TCAF a million years (a month) ago! We have contacted most of the people who won, but have yet to get our asses together and mail out/give in person their winnings. If you are one of those winners, a little pestering goes a long way.

We'd both like to thank all of those folks who participated. We might have to make this a yearly TCAF tradition!

TCAF REPORT WHOA!

Hey y'all! It's that glorious time of year again! TCAF TIME!! --- oh wait, nevermind. It's that horrible, awful, depressing post-TCAF time. In order to keep myself from slitting my own wrists and drowning in a bathtub of my own blood, I'm going to extend this wonderful weekend by reliving all it's memories through images with funny captions:

For the weekend we had the wonderful Charmaine Verhagen of Victoria BC,

and Jordan Shively of Grimaulkin Press staying with us.

A BREIF SUMMARY

Vicki and I had to make some stuff.

Panties, as always, helped immensely.

We took a small break from that stuff Wednesday night to see this guy, and maybe some other guys.

Once we got those retards staying with us for the weekend from the airport, and ate some food and got sufficiently sloshed, we showed up late (as usual) to a kick-off party at Ryan North's place, which is around a couple corners from our place.

Bright and early Saturday morning we headed out to the reference library with all our junk

We set up our table, vicki told me where things go and I cried.

We had a raffle, more on that later, and NO WE HAVEN'T DRAWN FOR IT YET. hold your horses, we have jobs. we'll do it tonight. jeeze.

At some point that weekend we met a baby who thought Scott C's postcard was really yummy.

Shively and Charmaine bought a lot of stuff that first day.

There was another party where I did not take any pictures, because I always forget to do that. Then there was Sunday.

We made Brian put his headphones in his nose to see if we could hear the music when he opened his mouth. I will not tell you the results of this experiment, you will just have to try it yourself.

The day went well, we met people, we bought comics, we sold a few here and there and gave away more. IF you are one of the sad sad people who did NOT get a copy of The Pretty Ridiculous Adventures of A. Zimerman because I was sold out when you got there, FEAR NOT, I am printing more today. You should comment here, or shoot me an email, or tweet at me, and we can talk about either a drop off, if you're local, and i'm not too busy (i'm very busy) or I can mail it out to wherever you live. None of that is for free mind, who do you think I am?

There was a closing party at an undisclosed location, that we showed up for a little bit, but not very late, and we hung out with these guys drawing some pictures and stuff.

Best part of the Toronto Wizard World Comic Con:

Vicki and I had Caricatures drawn by the undefinable Marlo Meekins. I can't decide which one I love more.

Also we found the beginning steps of Goatse just outside the Direct Energy Centre.

I don't really find these guys amusing anymore. They just stand around in large groups and get in my way when I'm on a pee-run.

There's something about this that is absolutely hilarious, I just haven't figured out what it is yet.

This guy (or gal!) tried too hard.

Oh NO Buzz! the atmosphere in here is toxic with NERD FUMES, where in God's name is your helmet??!

Overall this Con was a bit of a BUST, and even if we got a free table again next year, we won't be attending. Mostly it was freezing cold and there was nowhere to get a decent coffee and the only food was pizza pizza. Also no one appreciates Pig Boy and Ted Bear like they deserve at a con like that one. SIGH. BUT we met a ton of cool folks like Sam Bradley and James Turner, and hung out with some old friends like Nimit Malavia (aka Nympho Ma-labia) and Jill Secord and Lisa Bell. Also we made BETTER acquaintances with such ridiculous folks as Michael Comeau and Steve Manale.

In other news we are already hard at work on pretty awesome things for TCAF. Cheer us on as we try to update the blog with lots and lots of process posts. Otherwise we'll lose steam and fizzle out.

i have had to reprint every mini, so i have been back and forth to the paper store and copy centre and my apartment getting everything together...

i have been classing up my horrible smutty material with nicer covers this time around... here's a peek at the 2nd printing of "inanimate objects having awkward conversations":

black canson paper with a rag edge on the front cover? yes please. it'll be block printed just like the 1st run, but this one's nicer. sorry peeps who bought the first one... but this one kicks its ass.

"sock puppets and stool pigeons" too! this time with a lighter swankier resume paper cover. *touch touch touch* and are those bookmarks in the background? bitch must be crazy.

and whoa whoa whoa... remember that new comic i have been talking about for the past 173 months? well here it is! stencilled plaque and xeroxed type. it took a few failed trials and mucked up photocopier rollers to get this bitch to print right.

britt and i are planning to put together a weekly comics mini too! so lets hope we dont die of fatigue and being malnourished before that happens...

Fan Expo 2009 Summary

Fan expo was just plain nuts you guys. Nuts. We didn't sell as much as we'd hoped, but overall it was fun, we met some great folks, we also met some folks who were completely and totally socially inept.

Sadly, my skills of photo documentation have deteriorated, and there are tons of people i didn't get any photos of. SO SAD. Anyhoo, you guys know who you are, you are awesome and the next time I see you, we will take obscene photos that do not involve nakedness, but are nonetheless truly disgusting.

Friday. We have no idea what to expect yet, at least we finally got the sign all the way there, and up. I'm not even going to get into the fiasco that was the journey TO Toronto. Basically, I dropped the sign before I got on the bus, and cut my foot on the granny cart and bled everywhere, and somewhere in there is a panic attack and hanging up on Vicki.

Actually after that we had to push the goddamn granny cart full of stuff down a bazillion elevators, escalators and flights of stairs before we managed to get it to Yorkdale mall where my father was waiting with a car. Pulling that thing around gave me a brand new appreciation for the shit the handicapped have to deal with. Finding a way to get that thing anywhere was AWFUL.

FIRST POST, yippee!

I haven't spruced this place up yet, but don't you worry, I will. I WILL.

Today I finished up the new cover for my failed 24 hour comic, as the old one was ugly as a pile of human poop. Once these new ones are printed, later today perhaps, and folded and assembled (perhaps by the late 23rd century) they will be on sale both at the SOS show at 165 Augusta, and at the Rage store, both in Kensington Market (Toronto). I'll also be selling them at the end of the month at Fan Expo, so be sure to drop by.
